We are often asked when is the best time to start bringing children to visit the dentist. At Contemporary Dental, we believe that getting to know their dentist is the first step to successful oral health, so we like children to visit the practice from a young age. Our experienced practitioners are skilled at making every child feel relaxed and comfortable from their very first visit. We have many resources to help children get familiar with oral health.
Better outcomes for our younger patients
In many ways, the long-term prognosis for children’s dental health has never been better. Advanced technology combined with a better understanding of dental health and thorough at-home care means, now, more than ever before, children can expect to keep their teeth healthy for the rest of their lives. You can give your children the best chance by setting them on the right track from the start, with regular dental checks and establishing a good oral hygiene routine as early as possible.
The early dental appointments
While we don’t normally examine children’s teeth until they are about two and a half years old it is good to get young children into the routine of visiting the dentist so they become familiar with the practice and the team. During the first few appointments, we focus on oral hygiene and dietary advice specifically for babies, which will help you keep their teeth in good condition as they start to develop. We even ask them to sit in the chair so there are no surprises when they approach their first dental check. More than anything we want to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and when children are familiar with the routine from a young age it helps them to understand they have nothing to worry about.
Why choose us?
Choosing a dentist for your child is an important decision. Childhood routines often form the basis for the habits which we have throughout our lives, so if children are comfortable visiting the dentist from an early age they are more likely to continue with visits as they grow older. This, in turn, increases the likelihood of better overall dental health and a lower level of intervention.
Every member of the Contemporary Dental team is highly experienced when it comes to working with children. The environment is friendly, calm and designed to put children at ease. We take a gentle approach and we make the child’s comfort our number one priority. We’re so committed to looking after our younger patients that we offer free examinations for children under the age of ten (conditions apply).
Our dental practice is friendly and welcoming. Our comfortable, newly refurbished waiting area is designed to put everyone – especially our youngest visitors – at ease. It is even equipped with a range of books and toys to keep them entertained while they wait.
